After starting from the pole position, Larson finished ninth in both stage one and stage two before being collected in the multi-car accident with less than 10 laps to go in the 200-lap event. Although he was able to maneuver through two multi-car accidents in the DAYTONA 500 on Sunday, Kyle Larson could not miss a third one with nine laps to go and finished 32nd. Sunday’s event at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum began with four heat races to determine the starting lineup of the 23-car Clash field, a non-points event held for the first time on a temporary track inside the historic stadium. Kyle Larson, driver of the No. 5 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet ZL1, started second in the fourth heat and finished second in that 25-lap preliminary event – earning the eighth starting spot for the 150-lap Clash event.

Results of the 20th annual Randy Dorton Hendrick Engine Builder Showdown

After two days of competition, Hendrick Motorsports engineer John Boydston and Hendrick Automotive Group technician Dave Frey from Hendrick BMW in Charlotte, N.C., took home the title in the 20th annual Randy Dorton Hendrick Engine Builder Showdown, presented by Valvoline. The duo clocked in a build time of 23 minutes and 9 seconds, beating out 11 other teams to win the showdown.

Kyle Larson, who started first in the 500-lap race at Martinsville Speedway on Sunday, led the first 55 laps before being passed by Hendrick Motorsports teammate Chase Elliott. After fast work by the No. 5 HendrickCars.com pit crew during a lap-60 caution, Larson won the race off pit road and again paced the field to the restart. But he was passed by Elliott on lap 85 and trailed his teammate across the finish line when stage one ended at lap 130.
