2022 Engine Builder Showdown 2.jpg
The ultimate showdown is about to get underway.

This Wednesday, Nov. 9 and Thursday, Nov. 10, Hendrick Automotive Group certified master technicians will team up with Hendrick Motorsports race engine builders in the Randy Dorton Hendrick Engine Builder Showdown presented by Valvoline.

Here is what you need to know to before the engine builders hit the stage.

WHAT IS THE HENDRICK ENGINE BUILDER SHOWDOWN?

An annual competition that began in 2002 pairs 12 certified master technicians and 12 engine builders together. Each two-person team works hard and fast in assembling a 358-cubic-inch Chevrolet engine, which contains 243 parts, that is similar to the fuel-injected engines that run every NASCAR Cup Series weekend.

The two-day competition, named after Randy Dorton who was an innovator and competitive leader and understood that people are the key to success in any business, begins with each duo taking part in a qualifying build with the top-two fastest teams moving to the final round.

Builders are not only racing the clock but other teams for the fastest building time. And bragging rights, of course.

New to this year’s EBS schedule lineup is the Rookie Relay presented by NAPA. On Tuesday, Nov. 8, eight “rookie” service technicians from Hendrick Automotive Group dealerships will compete in the inaugural engine build relay that will be broadcast in-between Wednesday's qualifying rounds. For many, this will be their first visit to Hendrick Motorsports.
