Each year, Hendrick Automotive Group teammates rally together to participate in one of our company’s most meaningful traditions – Hendrick Week of Service. This annual weeklong event is held in celebration of Chairman and CEO Rick Hendrick’s birthday (July 12) and his longtime passion for serving others.

Throughout the week of July 7-11, teammates from over 50 of our locations nationwide supported their local communities by volunteering at 15 different meal-packing events across the country.

This year’s Week of Service culminated on Friday, July 11, with more than 250 teammates from Charlotte-area Hendrick dealerships and offices gathering at the Hendrick Motorsports Campus for the third annual “Sort-A-Rama.” Hosted by Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, volunteers worked together to sort, pack, and prepare over 10,000 meal kits that will assist our neighbors in need. This was our third straight “Sort-A-Rama” event with Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. Since 1981, the food bank has strived through education, advocacy, and partnerships to eliminate hunger by the solicitation and distribution of food in the 24 counties it serves across North and South Carolina.

As teammates united to support their community, Brian Porta, Hendrick Automotive Group Vice President of Education and Training, reflected on the significance of Week of Service.

“This is a great way to celebrate Mr. Hendrick and his birthday. This is a weeklong event that happens in all the states where we have our dealerships. From North Carolina to Texas, all the way to California, we have over 500 teammates this week actively working with their local food banks.  It’s just a lot of fun to bring our teammates together to celebrate Mr. Hendrick and the servant leader that he is. We love to give back and be able to serve those in our communities.”

Since 1982, the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama has worked to solve hunger by ensuring those in need can access emergency food near where they live. Each year, they supply millions of meals to more than 230 food pantries, shelters, and children’s programs in the 12 counties they serve across Central Alabama.

Hendrick Week of Service concluded Friday, July 11, with multiple meal-packing events across the country. In the Midwest, over 25 teammates from Hendrick Lexus Kansas City (KS) and Hendrick Lexus Kansas City North (MO) joined Harvesters Community Food Network to sort and repack nearly 2,500 pounds of corn that may not have otherwise reached families in need.

A regional food bank serving a 27-county area of northwestern Missouri and northeastern Kansas, the mission of Harvesters Community Food Network is to mobilize the power of their community to create equitable access to nutritious food and address the root causes and impact of hunger.

In addition to the activities mentioned above, Hendrick Automotive Group teammates also volunteered at meal-packing events in Northern California, Greenville (NC), Buford (GA), Norfolk and Richmond (VA), Franklin (TN), and Bradenton and Tallahassee (FL).

Week of Service is just one aspect of Hendrick Automotive Group’s year-round fight against hunger. Our ongoing efforts include annual spring, fall, and virtual meal drives that support food banks throughout the communities we serve.

Since 2020, Hendrick Automotive Group has contributed more than $8.3 million to local food banks. In addition, our teammates have packed more than 1 million pounds of food since our meal drive tradition began in 2001.

Thank you to all our teammates who volunteered and to our food bank partners for their dedication, collaboration, and shared commitment to supporting those facing hunger in our communities.
