Hendrick Automotive Group, the largest privately held automotive retail organization in the United States, has acquired Love Automotive in Columbia, South Carolina. The acquisition includes Love Chevrolet and Love GMC, located at 100 Parkridge Drive and 736 Saturn Parkway, respectively.
The addition of the well-respected dealerships expands Hendrick Automotive Group’s footprint while honoring the Love family’s legacy of service that spans more than 60 years. The locations, which mark the company’s return to the Columbia market, will continue operating under the leadership of current team members with a focus on providing a seamless customer experience and maintaining strong ties to the local community.
Hendrick Automotive Group operated Rick Hendrick Honda in Columbia from 1979-2001. With the addition of Love Automotive, it now has 13 dealerships in the state of South Carolina, including existing locations in Charleston, Easley and Rock Hill.
“For generations, the Love family has built its business around integrity, excellence and a deep commitment to people – values we share at Hendrick Automotive Group,” said Rick Hendrick, chairman and CEO of Hendrick Automotive Group. “We’re proud to carry on their legacy and invest in a community that means so much to them and to us. Our priority is taking care of our new teammates and continuing to earn the trust of customers who’ve counted on these dealerships for decades.”
Founded in 1961 by Julius and Nat Love, Love Automotive has long been recognized for delivering exceptional service and community involvement in the South Carolina market. The company has built strong relationships with customers and supported numerous local initiatives, including education, healthcare and youth development programs.
“This decision wasn’t about selling to the biggest company – it was about finding the right partner,” said Michael Love, president of Love Automotive. “I’ve known Rick for many years, and his organization has a reputation for doing things the right way. Their culture is built on valuing people, and I know they’ll take great care of our customers and our team members. That’s what matters most to our family.”
The two dealerships will be rebranded Hendrick Chevrolet and Hendrick GMC, and Hendrick Automotive Group will continue to invest in both facilities. All existing service and sales operations remain open.
