COMPETITION: Once a random draw pairs build teams the night before, qualifying rounds begin between the 12 Hendrick Automotive Group master technicians and 12 Hendrick Motorsports engine shop team members. From a base block, each team assembles 243 total parts into a fully functioning 358-cubic-inch Chevrolet engine similar to the fuel-injected versions that race every NASCAR Cup Series weekend.

RULES: The competition takes place over a two-day period, with one round of qualifying setting up the championship build, which pairs to the two quickest times recorded. The winners are determined by the quickest time with least number of errors. The quickest time ever recorded in the modern era of this competition (fuel-injected engines) is 21 minutes, 40 seconds in 2014.

It was Emerick’s fifth overall title, pulling him within one of Vester’s six Showdown victories, most all-time for the competition.
