Hendrick Automotive Group "Day of Service" a record-breaking success

July 12 was a significant milestone for Hendrick Automotive Group’s ongoing commitment towards fighting against hunger. In the largest single-day meal-packing effort in company history, more than 350 volunteers visited local food bank partners in Atlanta, Kansas City, Pleasanton (Calif.), Charleston (South Carolina), Raleigh and Charlotte honored Rick Hendrick’s birthday by simultaneously participating in the inaugural “Day of Service.”

Highlighting festivities were the more than 200 Hendrick Automotive Group volunteers who joined Second Harvest Food Bank in packing 8,000 meal boxes during “Sort-A-Rama” at the Charlotte Convention Center. The boxes of dry goods are part of the food bank’s Hendrick Automotive Group-supported mobile pantry program, where meal boxes are combined with fresh items to provide a week’s worth of food for families facing hunger on a daily basis, a particularly important need during the summer months.

“Giving back is a tremendous way to celebrate Mr. Hendrick’s birthday,” said Jason Sehorn, Hendrick Automotive Group director of communications. “To see this many teammates from various dealerships and the corporate office (take part in this event) is pretty impressive. They have taken time out of their day to come here, put these boxes together and make this work. This could have taken weeks to put together, and our teammates knock it out in a matter of a couple of hours. It’s tremendous to see what teamwork does, as the whole does is so much better than what the one can do.”

Since changing to the donation model during the pandemic in 2020, Hendrick Automotive Group has raised and contributed more than $4.5 million to its partner food banks throughout the country. It is an investment in the community that takes place throughout the entire year, including the company’s spring fundraising drive, where Hendrick Automotive Group employees helped the company donate more than $1 million, the largest single fundraising campaign in company history.
