Soft Top Prep: Begin by carefully inspecting your convertible’s soft-top for any signs of wear, tear or damage. Winter weather can be harsh on convertible tops, so it is crucial to address any issues before trouble arises. Gently clean using a convertible top cleaner and a soft brush to remove dirt and debris. For fabric tops, consider applying a specially designed protectant to enhance water repellency and protect against UV damage.

Maintain Moving Parts: One aspect of owning a convertible is the additional moving parts needed for operation. Whether it’s an electric or manual system, you need to ensure that each of those moving parts are lubricated and moving freely. Consult your vehicle’s operating manual for the proper products to use in this process.

Check Fluid Levels: This especially holds true if you have not driven your vehicle throughout the cold-weather months. Ensure that essential fluids are at the recommended levels. This includes engine oil, transmission fluid and coolant. Regularly changing these fluids according to the manufacturer's recommendation will keep your vehicle running smoothly and efficiently.

Examine Your Battery: Cold weather can take a toll on batteries. Before the warmest weather arrives, check your battery for any signs of corrosion. Clean if necessary. If your battery is older or showing signs of weakness, consult with a Hendrick Automotive Group service advisor and schedule a replacement appointment today. The last thing you want is to strand yourself in an unfamiliar parking lot or roadway with a dead battery. During the appointment, you may want to have them check your vehicle’s alternator as well.

Inspect Tires & Brakes: If you store your vehicle for any length of time, checking your tires for proper inflation is a must. Also, check for tread depth and tire health. It may also be a good opportunity to rotate your tires and consider a wheel alignment for optimal handling. Brake pads and rotors should receive an inspection at this time as well.

Replace Wiper Blades: If vehicle storage was not an option, an active winter driving regimen can be hard on your wiper blades. Install new ones to ensure clear visibility during the rainy season. Also, check fluid levels of your windshield washers and refill, if needed.

Interior Maintenance: An oft-overlooked aspect of convertible vehicle ownership is interior maintenance. Before heading out into the spring, give the interior a thorough cleaning, vacuuming and surface wipe down. Consider applying UV protection to leather or vinyl surfaces to prevent sun damage. Check the condition of floor mats and replace them if they show signs of significant wear or damage.

Test Lighting: Verify that exterior lights, including headlights, taillights and turn signals, are functioning properly. Replace any burnt-out bulbs, and do not forget to check the operations of your hazards.

Spring Tune-Up: Consider scheduling a spring tune-up at one of our Hendrick Automotive Group dealerships throughout the United States. They can inspect the engine; perform needed maintenance and address any issues that may have cropped up throughout the winter.

By following these tips -- many of which can also apply to your daily driver – you will ensure that your convertible is ready for the driving season to begin. Taking the time and expense to maintain your vehicle will not only enhance its performance but also contribute to a safe and enjoyable open-air driving experience. Happy motoring, people!

Oh and… Phil. You had better be right.
