More than $1 Million donated after Spring Meal Drive
The results are in for this year’s spring Hendrick Hunger Heroes Donation Drive, and they are inspiring! Hendrick Automotive Group teammates, Rick Hendrick (Hendrick Automotive Group Chairman & CEO) and Toyota matching funds combined to raise $1,058,200 million in support for 26 food banks nationwide.
Support from throughout the company was very impressive, as 68% of all employees were able to participate. Since 2020, when Hendrick Automotive Group switched to a donation model during the pandemic, the company has contributed a combined $6.35 million and fed an estimated 25.4 million people.
Every dollar raised helps partner food banks purchase and distribute food backpacks, mobile pantries and host team member packing events, which often benefit Title 1 schools.
Charleston Donation & Meal Packing
Charleston partner Lowcountry Food Bank recently hosted Hendrick Automotive Group team members for a check presentation and meal-packing event to help Charleston Tri-County neighbors in need.
During this special event, the Charleston team celebrated Hendrick Automotive Group’s $100,000 donation, which combined area employee donations, and a matching gift from Mr. Hendrick and Toyota.
"We were excited to have Hendrick Automotive Group with us last week and we appreciate the generous donation of their time and the impact they make in the lives of those we serve," said Nick Osborne, Lowcountry Food Bank President and CEO. "We are proud to count Hendrick Automotive Group as a dedicated corporate partner for Lowcountry Food Bank, and today's event is another example of their leadership and philosophy in action of giving back to the community through Hendrick Cares - their corporate social responsibility program that drives a legacy of caring for others and a commitment to teamwork."
Funds help provide meals for neatly 500,000 neighbors who experience food insecurity throughout the Charleston area. Program supported includes Lowcountry Food Bank's BackPack Buddies packs for Hendrick Automotive Group's partner Title 1 schools, food distribution and packing events, and mobile food pantry distributions that provide convenient access to food for neighbors in their own communities.
Hendrick Automotive Group has donated funds and time to Lowcountry Food Bank for 11 years. They have hosted more than 30 spring and fall fundraising and volunteer events for Lowcountry neighbors who would not otherwise have access to these meals. Through donation drives during the pandemic, Hendrick Automotive Group teammates assisted the company in purchasing, assembling and distributing more than 800,000 meals to Lowcountry neighbors.
"It all starts with Mr. Hendrick - he makes it all possible," said Cali Young, Hendrick Automotive Group director of brand and reputation. "We are grateful to give back to our community and help our neighbors who experience food insecurity. Lowcountry Food Bank is such a terrific longstanding partner in our fight, affording our members an opportunity to not only donate need funds, but also participate in meal packing and distribution events throughout the year.”
A hearty thank you goes out to everyone who participated.
