BMW's sporty alternative for daily driving makes changes for '25
BMW birthed the 4-Series to separate its 3-Series coupe and sedan segments starting in 2014. Known for being two inches lower and a bit wider, the vehicle epitomizes what it means to be a driver’s vehicle, which you can see throughout Hendrick Automotive Group’s BMW 4-Series Inventory.
Evolving Platform
Since its inception, the 4-Series has evolved to include a two-door coupe, four-door Gran Coupe and signature two-door convertible -- becoming a favorite for driving enthusiasts needing the practicality of an everyday driver.
For 2025, there is a new mild-hybrid powerplant available in the 440i coupe -- a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine highlighted by a 48-volt starter generator. With its additional 11 horsepower, the 440i produces 386 combined horsepower at an impressive 398 foot-pounds of torque.
The 430i coupe has similar 48-volt mild hybridization in its 2.0-liter, four-cylinder configuration, and produces 255 horsepower at 295 foot-pounds of torque. The redesigned engine is more powerful and efficient, with a combined fuel economy of 30 miles per gallon (35 highway; 27 city).
Like the 3-Series, BMW’s eight-speed automatic transmission is one of the best in production currently. Smooth, intuitive shifting and in an easy-to-use package has set the German brand apart in this area. Combined with an aggressive drive mode and paddle shifters on the steering wheel, BMW once again proves its “Ultimate Driving Machine” chops.
What’s New for 2025?
In short, the entire cabin. The 2025 4-Series had significant updates to its steering wheel, console and instrument panel.
The new steering wheel design is more polygonal than last year’s version, flattening the bottom grip in a motor sports-inspired configuration. Driver controls are still the same, with buttons to operate radio tuning, cruise, wipers and other key functions. Meanwhile, the M-Sport Shadowline Package offers a road-centering marker at the top of the wheel and ‘M’ stitching throughout, another nod to its performance heritage.
Illuminated gearshift paddles and multifunction buttons also highlight the re-designed steering wheel.
An updated 8.5 system comes with the addition of an updated iDrive QuickSelect rotary and improved climate control functionality. Cabin lighting now contours the vents while optional carbon fiber and blue ash trims become a part of the options available. The changes dramatically altered the aesthetics on the center console.
In addition to the new premium materials used for ventilation and climate control systems, items such as temperature, fan speed, seat and steering wheel heat controls are now regulated through BMW’s curved display center, or the simple use of voice commands.

M Sport Receives Exterior Updates Too
A new-look kidney grill, laser-accented taillights (optional on the 430i) and black tailpipe finish highlight the new M440i coupe and convertible models. A black high-gloss finish adorns the signature 4-Series kidney grill, while the horizontal crossbars include the iconic “M” performance logo. It also replaces Cerium Gray for all apron designs.
As part of the M-Sport carbon package, models also received M graphics throughout the exterior and interior, including doorsill trim, driver footrest and infotainment display.
The package still offers customer-favorite upgrades such as ‘M-Sport’ suspension, blue brakes, variable steering and 19-inch wheels, which include attractive new design options.
Open Air Freedom
As one of the few luxury convertibles still on the market today, the 4-Series still sets a high standard. Tailored for all weather conditions, the soft top can raise or lower in less than 10 seconds at speeds up to 30 mph. Reinforced paneling both reduces road noise and insulates against the elements of summer heat and winter cold.
For those who decide to go all-wheel-drive, the 4-Series convertible is so well-built that it is usable year-round -- even when top-down driving is but a pleasant memory at the moment.
