Hendrick Certified vs Hendrick Affordable: Which Is Right for You?

At Hendrick Automotive Group, we understand that just because a customer is looking for a used car dealership, it doesn’t mean that they don’t want warranty coverage and assurances similar to what you get with a new vehicle. When the unexpected comes up, repairing a car can be expensive. In fact, sometimes it’s more than a driver has budgeted for. Plus, visiting multiple mechanics and comparing quotes is stressful and time-consuming. Many drivers don’t know how to spot an honest mechanic or know if they’re getting a good quote. This is why we created two special categories of pre-owned vehicles that you can find in our inventory: Hendrick Certified and Hendrick Affordable.

In addition to our general inventory of used cars, we offer Hendrick Certified and Hendrick Affordable vehicles as high-value options for drivers who want extended warranties with a pre-owned vehicle. Plus, these vehicles come with other great perks, too. Don’t let necessary repairs or surprise incidents break the bank. If you’re curious about the main differences between our programs, here’s a look at each one’s pros and cons.

Hendrick Certified

Hendrick Certified is our in-house Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) program. Vehicles must meet rigid standards in order to qualify for this label. Every car with the Hendrick Certified label has undergone a 260-point Vehicle Inspection by our certified technicians. We popped the hood, looked under the vehicle, checked out every internal component, and made sure that the car is in good enough condition to be part of our CPO program.

The Warranties

With each Hendrick Certified vehicle, you will get a Limited Powertrain Warranty that begins on January 1st of the model year and ends either 10 years later or once the odometer reaches 100,000 miles—whichever comes first. That means this warranty is good on vehicles up to 10 years old. Our Limited Powertrain Warranty covers issues pertaining to all the things that make your vehicle move, including the transmission, axles, and engine.

These vehicles also come with a High-Tech Warranty. This covers features like your infotainment screens, Bluetooth connectivity, and cameras. If your used car has excellent infotainment, you want to protect it with our High-Tech Warranty. This warranty begins on the date of purchase (so it differs from the powertrain warranty in that way) and lasts for 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first.

These warranties are valid at your Hendrick selling dealership and its affiliates, as well as a number of authorized repair facilities. For any repair that is covered under warranty, there is only a $50 deductible. All you have to do to be eligible is purchase a Hendrick Certified vehicle and keep up with the scheduled maintenance, as recommended in your owner’s manual. You do not need to have your car maintained at a Hendrick dealership, but you do need to keep copies of repair orders for any maintenance performed.

Additional Coverage

You will also receive 24 Hour Roadside Assistance with our Hendrick Certified program. This will cover emergency fuel delivery, flat tire replacement, battery jumps, lockout assistance, and towing to an affiliated nearby auto body shop or mechanic. This coverage pays up to $100 per incident.

If you often take road trips far from home, you’ll appreciate our Trip Interruption coverage. This covers mechanical failures that leave you stranded when you are over 100 miles from your home. Dealing with a broken-down car can be time-consuming, but you’ll be reimbursed up to $75 per day for hotels, transportation, and food. There is a limit of $500 per incident.

Should your car break down closer to home and you need a rental while it's in the shop, you’ll also get Vehicle Rental Coverage as part of the Hendrick Certified program. This will cover rental car costs of up to $35 per day for a maximum of five days, with a total payout of $175 per incident.

Hendrick Affordable

Now, let’s take a look at our Hendrick Affordable program. This is a terrific option for used cars that are too old or have too many miles on them to qualify for the Hendrick Certified program. Eligible vehicles can be up to 12 years old and have up to 150,000 miles on the odometer. Hendrick Affordable vehicles also undergo an 182-point inspection to qualify. So, just because you’re looking at a car that is too old to qualify for the Hendrick Certified program doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy helpful warranties and other coverage.

The Warranties

The Limited Powertrain Warranty on Hendrick Affordable vehicles begins on the date of purchase. It lasts up to three months past the date of purchase or once you’ve put an additional 3,000 miles on the odometer—whichever comes first. This is a solid improvement over most of the used cars out there, but it isn't as much coverage as you will get from a Hendrick Certified model.

As with Hendrick Certified models, you must keep up with the manufacturer-recommended maintenance on Hendrick Affordable models in order to qualify for coverage. See your owner’s manual for the details of what this maintenance entails for your vehicle. The deductible for each repair under this plan is $200, which is higher than for the Hendrick Certified warranty but still affordable.

Additional Coverage

Hendrick Affordable vehicles get the same 24 Hour Roadside Assistance coverage as Hendrick Certified vehicles. The same items are covered, and you also get up to $100 of coverage per incident. Trip Interruption coverage is also identical on Hendrick Affordable vehicles and Hendrick Certified vehicles. However, the Vehicle Rental coverage differs. With a Hendrick Affordable model, you get $30 of coverage per day for up to three days or a total of $90 per incident.
