Hendrick Automotive Group has enjoyed a longstanding relationship with North Carolina’s Charlotte Auto Show, which takes place at the Convention Center in Uptown Charlotte from Nov. 16 to Sunday, Nov. 19 at 6 pm ET.

Highlighted by more than 170 new cars, trucks and SUVs -- many provided by Hendrick Automotive Group area dealerships – and bolstered by experiential activities such as the inaugural Indoor EV Test Track and New Technology & Sustainability Zone, the 2023 Charlotte Auto Show has something for everyone. Additionally, vintage first responder and military vehicles, Kyle Larson’s No. 5 HendrickCars.com NASCAR Cup Series Chevrolet and the famous Oscar Wiener mobile will also be on display.

After expenses, event proceeds return to the community through various charitable organizations and support for area school districts.

“The community (support for this event) has been tremendous,” said David Porter, Hendrick Automotive Group market area vice president and current board member of the show. “This is event is the primary source of income for the Greater Charlotte Area Dealers Association. The money goes back into the community, primarily for first responders, children’s events, etc. We’re getting close to the $5.6 million mark with what we are able to put back into the community over the years.”

This year, new vehicles from numerous manufacturers will be present. Among those participating from Hendrick Automotive Group includes vehicles from BMW, Acura, Audi, Chevrolet, Porsche, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, Jaguar, Land Rover, Honda, etc. Each of the dealerships are not only bringing vehicles to experience, but will have product specialist on hand to answer questions.

“It’s a really cool event where all the brands and the people that normally compete with each other, get together in one space,” Porter said. “There’s a lot of Hendrick (Automotive Group) team members, but there a lot of other people that we work with too. It’s the newest, latest and greatest technologies from all the manufacturers.

“For customers, it’s a zero pressure environment where they can see everything they want to see,” Porter added. “They came to see as many cars under one roof that they could possibly see. This show delivers.”

An example of what to expect comes from Porter’s Charlotte dealership teams at Hendrick Acura, Hendrick Porsche, Land Rover Charlotte and Jaguar Charlotte.

“We’ll have three Jaguars, three Land Rovers and three Porsches,” Porter said. “On the Jaguar side, the F-Type sports car, the mid-size F-Pace SUV and the iPace which is their electric vehicle entry.

“We know we’ll have a couple of Defenders over there and these are special vehicles,” Porter added. “One of them is the “TReK” that four of our team members competed in an event down in (Austin) Texas. It has actually seen some competitive action. It has every piece of off-road accessory that it could possibly have. Running boards, wenches, overhead lights, onboard air compressor.

Acura will also have it full lineup present, including the brand new Integra, while Hendrick Porsche will have its Macan and Cayenne SUVs, and the popular Taycan EV.

“We’re also excited about the Acura and Porsche models we will be highlighting,” Porter said.

Community Support

A special fundraising breakfast called “Handbags, Heels & Horsepower” kicks off proceedings that Thursday morning, where a raffle tickets were available to purchase. Prizes included 20 different items from brands such as Louis Vuitton, Yves St. Laurent, Christian Louboutin, Chloe and Tory Burch.

The money raised is in support of the Isabella Santos Foundation, one of the leading charities in support of families of children going through difficult medical situations.

“A group of us had the opportunity to tour the Isabella Santos wing of the Levine’s Children’s Hospital,” Porter said. “We have donated to help (construct and maintain) the kid’s wing where families spend some of the toughest hours you could ever imagine. They are making sure the surroundings are as family friendly as they possibly could be. People now come here from all over to take care of their kids and families.

“We love partnering with them,” Porter added. “They have done some incredible things. The people attending get to see the latest and greatest from the OEMs, and they know their investment is going back in to the community.”

Jenn Jackson, who leads the Greater Charlotte Area Dealers Association, oversees much of the show’s activation and community service initiatives. Her team has been instrumental in building the show and taking care of those in need around the Charlotte area.

“It wouldn’t be a discussion about the auto show without talking about the team of people that make it happen,” Porter said. “The people that put this together – Jenn Jackson, Cindy (Joye) and Brittany (Chin) – do an absolutely super hero job with it. My favorite part has been working with and interacting with them personally. (Jenn) is a true asset to the association -- she is a dynamo.”
