Today's enthusiast vehicles may become tomorrow's collectable favorites

One thing car enthusiasts love to speculate about is what vehicles could be future collectors. Specifically, which ones -- if you bought it now -- would be the apple of everyone’s eye during future gatherings of enthusiasts?
Since it is Collector Car Appreciation Day, we wanted to join in on the fun here at the HendrickCars.com blog. While it’s truly hard to say what will inspire a bidding war at a future Barrett-Jackson Collector Car auction, we wouldn’t be enthusiasts without speculating on the future collectability of a few very special vehicles we currently have available. Let’s get started:
2020 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat
If Dodge’s Hellcat offerings were a word to translate … it would be “horsepower.” While collectors have already leaned into the 797(!) horsepower Challenger Hellcat Redeye editions, it is notable the standard 6.2 liter, four-door Charger (our spotlighted vehicle at the link) also packs a lot of punch and checks quite a few boxes with collectors. Extreme horsepower is a trait that enthusiasts are attracted to for their collections. And at 707 horsepower, earth-rotating torque and every day practicality, it has the oomph to haul your family up a highway hill or two … or the side of a building. Whichever you prefer.
Appropriately, Dodge engineers bolstered the package by outfitting the 2020 Hellcat with 20-inch Pirelli wheels, fours that feature a nearly foot-wide traction patch. Brembo six-piston front calipers, two-piece brake rotors, multi-link suspension and Bilstein shocks with three dampening modes only add to the attractive overall package. Meaning, a factory stock Charger Hellcat can run the quarter mile quicker than an NHRA A/S Stock Automatic and still pick up groceries during the drive home all in the same day. That is 10.96 seconds of “pretty cool.”
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: DO NOT try to drive up the side of a building. What are YOU doing?
Contextually, it’s also important to note as we transition into hybrid and electric vehicle platforms, cars producing outrageous combustion horsepower such as the Hellcat will eventually be much more difficult to come by. Case in point, Dodge has already announced the discontinuation of the ICE-powered versions of the Charger (and Challenger) at the end of the 2023 model year. Completing a model run that dates back to 2015.

2022 Porsche Cayman GT4
The Porsche 911 has long hailed by collectors as one of history’s most sought-after sports cars. With its sweet noise, classic look and neutral driving stance, it is an automotive icon in every sense of the word. Porsche’s longstanding flagship has also led the way in helping it establish an international racing pedigree, which is impressive and cinematic. A legacy that washes over the entire lineup.
In 2006, Porsche introduced another special vehicle -- the Cayman. Designed with the driver in mind, Caymans consistently please owners with subtle looks, luxury appointments and terrific handling, while feted as the sports car most focused on the driver. However, for the select group of enthusiasts who still yearned for a bit more power, Porsche introduced the astonishing GT4 in 2015. A car so impressive, the factory took it international GT racing in 2019.

Infused with 414 horsepower and 309-foot pounds of torque for 2022, the 4.0-liter flat six upped the car’s aural experience to something more familiar. Zero to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, revving more than 8,000 rpms and an engine note that is quintessentially Porsche, the Cayman GT4 certainly has the pedigree of a future collector. A statement many 911files would agree with as well.
From a driver’s perspective, the first 2020 GT4s were manual exclusive; however, a PDK dual-clutch automatic, similar to the one featured in our listing, added to the mix in 2022. The listed Guards Red machine has a black exterior, red-stitch leather interior in race leather trim with high-end amenities such as carbon fiber accents, full bucket seating, Porsche’s Dynamic LED Lighting System, headlight cleaning covers, two-zone automatic climate control, aluminum pedals & foot rest, Apple CarPlay and Bose surround sound all included in this car.
If you are a Porsche fan, the Cayman GT4 is a car to keep an eye on as a future collectable. You can purchase your own version right now; check out our listing here.
