Electric vehicles (EV) have brought an entire new set of rules to daily transportation. As the public infrastructure continues to grow, there are additional options to consider when it comes to re-charging EV vehicles.
If you already own one or contemplating an EV as a future purchase, you may want to consider adding a charging station to your home. Below are a few reasons why this option may be a beneficial one for you:
CONVENIENCE: Having a charging station at home means you can charge your EV at your own convenience. You don’t have to rely on public charging stations or plan trips around charging availability for the daily commute.
COST EFFECTIVE: Charging an EV at home is often cheaper than using public charging stations or paying for gas. The cost of electricity is traditionally lower than the cost of fuel, and you can take advantage of off-peak rates (if available).
SAFETY: Charging your EV at home is generally safer than charging it at a public station, as you control who has access to the charging area.
RELIABILITY: Having a home charging station means you do not have to worry about locating one on the road, or wait for other EV drivers to finish charging before you start.
EASY INSTALLATION: Home charging stations are easy to install, and some vehicle manufacturers even provide installation services. There are two charging options available, the basic Level 1 connector and Level 2 stations, which are more expensive, but much quicker and more efficient in the long term.
ELECTRIC VEHICLE SERVICE EQUIPMENT (EVSE): can be programmable, where owners schedule charging windows during off-peak hours, which help save on electric bills. Some EVSE also have smart features such as a remote control and monitoring, allowing one to check charging status – with the ability to start or stop remotely using an app.
